H Duckworth Independent Funeral Directors was established nearly 100 years ago in 1929 by Henry ‘Harry’ Duckworth.

Harry was a carpenter by trade and could turn his hand to most things, especially if it meant he was helping someone in need. From making all the coffins by hand to decorating and refurbishing houses, he established a reputation for the quality of his work and a friendliness which made him well liked and respected throughout the village of Cramlington and its smaller neighbours.

Harry was supported solely by his wife, Ethel, who undertook the day-to-day tasks of bookkeeping and administration.

Today, the business remains proudly independent and is owned by Harry and Ethel’s daughter, Elizabeth and directed by her own daughter, Kim. Also in the team are Neil Dinning, Funeral Director and Dale Dowson, Funeral Directors’ Assistant.

Together, they look to the task of continuing Harry’s heritage and providing a range of funeral services which combine compassion for the bereaved with the high quality and assurance that is to be expected on such an important occasion.
